Creating space for children to connect, grow, heal, and thrive in nature. 🌿

Hello, my name is Jodi, and I am the heart behind Camp Karuna.

I am an educator who has spent much of my career learning about children, development, resilience, and what children need in order to truly thrive. I recently earned my Master’s Degree in Education with a focus on trauma and resilience in educational settings at Concordia University, building on my years of experience working with young children and families. I am also a certified Pyramid Model Teacher with extensive training in Conscious Discipline. But Camp Karuna grew from something much bigger than my professional education.

Camp Karuna grew from a belief that children need more than academic success. They need to feel safe, connected, understood, capable, and loved. They need opportunities to slow down, explore, move, wonder, create, take healthy risks, build relationships, and simply be children.

I have become especially passionate about the ways nature, connection, social-emotional development, and supportive relationships can create opportunities for growth and healing. Camp Karuna brings those pieces together in a space where children can experience the natural world while developing the skills, confidence, and sense of belonging that help them navigate life.

The name Karuna reflects the heart of this vision. It is often translated as compassion—the desire to recognize suffering and respond with care. That is the kind of environment I want Camp Karuna to be: a place where children are met with compassion, encouraged to grow, and reminded that they are capable of more than they may realize.

At Camp Karuna, we aren't trying to create perfect children. We're creating space for children to become more fully themselves.

I’m so glad you’re here, and I hope you’ll join us in creating a place where nature, healing, and development come together.

The most profound healing begins where the wild meets the human heart. Camp Karuna's approach is rooted in the therapeutic power of the outdoors and the unconditional presence of animals. By fostering intentional outdoor experiences, children build emotional resilience and empathy, transforming the natural world into a sanctuary for the whole child.
